Sleep and Weight Loss

Did you know that not getting enough sleep at night can actually cause you to gain weight? Scientists are finding that when a person does not get enough sleep at night, that person's "hunger hormones" (Ghrelin) are usually high and the hormone that control satiety (lepton) is usually low. So, of you aren't getting enough sleep, you may have a harder time satisfying your hunger and thus overeating. Research conducted by the University of Wisconsin and Stanford University found "that people who sleep two to four hours a night are 73% more likely to be obese than those who get seven to nine hours. Those who get five or more hours of sleep a night are 50% more likely to be obese than normal sleepers. Those who sleep six hours are 23% more likely to be obese". So be sure to get your "beauty sleep"!
